Open Education: curricular and digital transformation

OTRAS NOVEDADES

The Technology University of Uruguay (UTEC) invites you to participate next Tuesday 10 March at 10 a.m. (-3 GMT) in our webinar Open Education: curricular and digital transformation, where we will be sharing all processes carried out in connection with Open Digital Education.

The foundation of UTEC in 2012 coincided with UNESCO’s Paris declaration on Open Educational Resources (OERs), a key moment for the global development of Open Education. That year was also paramount in the development of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), the reason why 2012 is sometimes referred to as “The Year of the MOOC” in certain circles. Open Education logics influenced UTEC from the very start. At UTEC, we conceive an Open Education from a wide perspective as a means to carry out education, to develop the students’ competencies and skills, allowing them to address and solve problems using different tools, including OERs, teaching methods, professional training and continuous life-long education aiming to democratize access to quality education for people of diverse places and educational backgrounds (Marrero, 2019).

Along these lines, crucial initiatives have been developed, such as the Digital Educational Resources (DERs), University Digital Education (virtual MOOCs) and MOOC initiatives, and the positioning of UTEC regionally and globally as a node of existing world networks, such as Openedx.

Speakers at the webinar include professors and leaders of these processes, who will present some of the latest highlights, such as:

  • A Digital Education Ordinance that makes it possible to offer MOOC courses to the world, qualifying and certifying regular and occasional students around the globe, and allows teachers to turn their CUs into MOOCs;
  • A call for MOOCs, which promotes the creation of MOOCs by all the UTEC community;
  • Virtual UDE (University Digital Education), incorporating a virtual space for MOOC courses into the UTEC ecosystem;
  • DER virtual spaces open to students, teachers and world-class educators, with manuals and tutorials on Techno-pedagogy, Digital Learning Experiences, Learning Digital Media, Technical Solutions for Education;
  • A YouTube Channel that allows people around the world to access UTEC’s educational videos.
  • Some of our achievements include: 6,500 people from 25 countries who signed up for the open courses we offered from the UDE space; 145,600 people from +100 countries who visited our DER space and used our techno-pedagogy manuals and video tutorials, Learning Digital Media, Technical Solutions for Education; our video tutorials reached 1,570,759 downloads and +280,000 views.
